Counseling
The Millennium High School Counseling Team focuses on supporting the social emotional growth and academic needs of our students. Our goal is to build trusting relationships with students and provide a safe space to express their thoughts and feelings through individual and group counseling. Through an empathetic and student-centered approach, we encourage personal development and resilience when facing life’s challenges.
Our team consists of school counselors, social worker, and art therapist. We advocate for students and collaborate with parents/guardians, and school staff. Additionally, we offer resources for outside counseling referrals as needed.
We are located on the 12th floor in room 1219. We have an open door policy so if you would like to meet with a counselor you can walk in to set up an appointment. You can also reach us through Jupiter Ed.
Art Therapy
As part of the NYU Art Therapy in Schools Program, individual and group art therapy sessions are facilitated by a licensed art therapist as an additional component of the school support services at Millennium. Parents and staff may refer students to the program, which invites students to utilize art making to restore healthy functioning and provide mastery amidst feelings of helplessness. Art therapy presents an effective means to address feelings of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, in addition to other symptoms. The symbolic images that are generated allow students a capacity to express feelings and ideas regarding psychological conflicts and life experiences that are too emotionally loaded for verbal communication. Art helps students organize the chaos of their internal worlds. Teachers provide feedback and parents are involved in students' continual progress. In addition to facilitated sessions throughout the day, the program runs two after school groups. Art Loft is a space for students to de-stress with an open art studio at the end of a long day and Rainbow Studio provides a space for creative expression and community building for LGBTQ+ students.
